Research and Data Hub:

  • Conduct of dedicated research  as well as provision of direct and/or advisory technical assistance to regional and national programmes for  situation analysis of internal and international migration in the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA);  internal displacement of population (IDP); brain gain and contribution of Diaspora in homeland development; human security and its effects on development.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Short-term courses on migration-development nexus, including Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for policymakers and programme implementers.

  • Conduct workshops and seminars on migration-development policy nexus, migration management in-country, along common borders and involving third countries, and within a defined development region, such as regional economic communities (RECs).

  • Liaise with SSA and GHA universities for post-graduate training in Migration, Human Security and Development Studies (MIHUSEDES). The quest for incorporating migration in various facets and levels of development requires post-graduate training in which AMADPOC collaborates with universities and other stakeholders for certificated courses.

Policy Dialogue and Networking (PDN):

The AMADPOC will offer a variety of dialogue opportunities, including:

  • Workshops on particular topics requiring development for future research and training;

  • Seminars based on ongoing/accomplished research, policy development and programmes; and

  • Conferences which will draw participants from the GHA region and the wider SSA as well as participants from the North and other parts of the South.

Outputs of these policy and dialogue initiatives will include publications aimed at particular audiences: a quarterly newsletter, Working Papers, Discussion Papers and Policy Briefs, books/monographs and a quarterly journal, African Migration Review, containing peer-reviewed scholarly and policy-oriented articles.

 

 

Resource Centre:

The ultimate objective of the Resource Centre will be to develop a state-of-the-art facility for collection, storage, retrieval and dissemination of print and electronic material on migration in SSA and other areas which the region sustains links with. Specifically the Resource Centre will:

  • Collect from a variety of sources of print and electronic material the necessary migration information generated by the research community, training institutions and policy-making bodies

  • Organise the available material in easily accessible and retrievable form for users;

  • Establish sustainable links with similar institutions within and outside of the GHA region;
  • Publish from time to time an online newsletter covering relevant material for distribution within research, training and dialogue networks and other partners in working relationship with the Resource Centre; and
  • Assist the Publications/Communication Director with the publication (on-line and hard copy) and dissemination of AMADPOC’s products as well as its acquisition of products from other institutions to which it is linked.
